Although Erica Michaels Hollander has done many things other than painting in her life, including practicing law and teaching, lately painting has become a driving passion.  The blizzard of 2003 put 54” of snow on her deck in Roxborough Park and left her housebound for more than a week.  In that time she took out paints she had not touched since she was a child.

She says, “ The process of seeking to express what is within in ways that touch others seems to me in this time of my life infinitely intriguing and challenging.  Painting has come to mean much more to me than I ever would have dreamt it might.  When I was young I hoped to change the world.  Now I seek to depict it and the feelings it evokes in me instead.  I hope to speak to others’ feelings through these images, and want to use art as a language for building bridges between people.”

Erica's paintings have been in many juried shows, and won many prizes.  Her paintings have shown at the Madden Museum, Littleton Museum, Wildlife Experience, Roxarts Gallery, Square Deal Gallery and other locations.  She has studied with Charles Reid, Mel Staubin, Victoria Kwasinski, Lance Green, Tom Francesconi, and others.  She is a member of the Roxborough Arts Council and Heritage Fine Arts Guild.
